Meet our Senior Pastor
Bishop Jethro Alexis

Pastor Jethro Alexis was born in Cabaret, Haiti on Feb. 7 to Isidor and Carmen Alexis. He is the 3rd of 7 children. He was raised in a house of ministry and attended The Church Of God Of Guitton, Cabaret (L’Eglise de Dieu de Guitton) under the leadership of Pastor Charles Doutre Desmornes, then of Pastor Idonique Rene. Growing up, Jethro was very personal. He had always said that his friends were his books.Obtaining an education was very important for Jethro and he found great pleasure in learning. He was always an “A” student and always made sure that he put his best foot forward academically because he knew that education is key to success in life. Education was also very important to his older brother Alix Pierre who took him under his wings. He tutored him and put him through school at Yves Albert Boucher where he was a professor.

This is where Jethro met the beautiful Marie Winny Ducrepin, one of Alix’s students.Jethro graduated from High School and attended INAGHEI (State University of Haiti) where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After graduating, Jethro obtained a scholarship (bourse) from the U.N. to study in France “Course Conception for Port Management”, while working at the National Port Authority. He was there for 4 years as Accountant, Fiduciary at the Pension Fund and Instructor at CEFEP, a Training Center for employees.  After High School, Winny immigrated to the U.S.A. and in December 1988 went back to Haiti to visit her fiancé and eventually they got married on January 11,1989. Jethro moved to America on December 23rd of the same year. One day, through the invitation of Russell Dimanche, Jethro visited the Farmingdale COG pastored by Bishop Antonio and Reverend Emilie Rivette where he eventually became a member and remained there for 5 years.

During this time, Jethro received the final confirmation of God’s calling during a revival with no way to escape. Although he always wanted to be a businessman and Winny always wanted him to be a doctor or a diplomat, God had other plans. For many years, they tried to have children but were unable to until Jethro answered the call to ministry. He graduated from the New York School of Ministry in June of 1993 and at the end of the same year, Winny became pregnant with their firstborn, Jetny Bethsaida Alexis. In January of 1994, Jethro received his exhorter’s license. After receiving his license, Jethro became the youth pastor at Abundant Harvest COG for 2 years, until the Lord called him to pastor his own church. With the vision that God had given him as well as the blessing of Bishop Antonio and Reverend Emilie Rivette, Jethro founded Patmos Tabernacle Church of God. The church originally gathered at 119 Ealing Court, in Brentwood, NY.

They held their first service on January 21st, 1996 with 34 members including Sister Anne Dietz and Sister Ketly Aris and family. They continued to grow until the basement had reached its maximum capacity. On October 13th, 1996, the church moved to the VFW Hall at 140 Wurz St. in Brentwood with 54 members and during that time period, Jethro became an ordained minister. The Lord saw fit to not only expand the church and their ministry but also to expand their family and on September 5, 1996, Jenica Rochelle Alexis was born. The church was later inaugurated by the NY state overseer, Bishop Joseph Mirkovitch on June 1, 1997. Soon after, the Lord expanded their family again with the birth of their third daughter, Jedidah Winny Alexis on November 23, 2000. The church family worshipped at the VFW Hall with weekly services held at 6 Melody Lane in Brentwood for a total of 6 years. The Lord blessed them to be able to purchase their own property at 489 Grand Blvd, where they began holding church services on June 1, 2003.  Although with constant transition, Jethro continued his pursuit of higher education. He earned another Bachelor’s Degree in 2003 from Logos University,   and a Master’s Degree in Theology in 2005 from International Theological Seminary.

Two years after, under the covering of NY State Overseer, Bishop Andrew Binda, Jethro was ordained as a Bishop within the Church of God in June 2007. The road has not always been easy. In 2006, the church suffered a huge hit and was reduced from approximately 160 members to about 35 members. Through it all, with the Lord’s covering, Jethro remained faithful to his assignment. Although at times it was discouraging, with the support of his wife and with many prayers, he continued to trust the Lord to order his steps. The church once again began to flourish and a few years later, Pastor Jethro received the vision to change the church name to the Tabernacle of Praise Church of God.  By God’s grace, the church continues to grow. Jethro was not only able to expand locally but in April of 2013, the Lord opened a door of opportunity for a second church to be planted in Cabaret, a third in Arcahaie, Haiti in 2018.

As of the recent year, the TOP location in NY has become home to more than 200 members. As a result, the church had to move back to the VFW Hall and the weekly services still being held at our outgrown location at 489 Grand Blvd. As the shepherd of Tabernacle of Praise Church of God for the past 23 years, Jethro’s greatest passion is to see spiritual gifts administered, developed in others. He is committed to the task in a way that compels him to go the extra mile to see every individual succeed. He is willing to equip others with necessary resources so that potential can be developed in them. Pastor Jethro gives of his time and energy, believing that it will benefit those whom he invests in. He is reliable in every way and gives his all to everyone around him. He never considers himself too high to lend a helping hand. Jethro is always willing to sacrifice all that the Lord has afforded him in a way that benefits others. Out of a pure heart, he gives endlessly to everyone. He is one who constantly makes himself available to be a blessing. He has always shown himself faithful to his God, his family, and his church.

Jethro’s favorite part of ministry is teaching. His mission is to mold and shape people and to equip them to go out into all the world as disciples of Jesus Christ. He encourages and pushes them to see the manifestation of God’s complete work in their lives. He is dedicated to seeing others succeed spiritually and academically, no matter the age. Leading by example, Jethro is currently working on his Doctorate in Divinity. He and his wife have been blessed with 31 years of marriage. Being one who serves family first, he has shown the selfless love of God in the way that he interacts with and cares for his wife and daughters. His family describes him as one with an extremely kind heart and as being very helpful. He is truly a servant and is impartial in his ways. He never hesitates to do any task, as long as others are able to receive. Jethro remains a role model for all those around him. He has changed the lives of many and continues to have a great impact on those in his community. He is a pastor, a husband, father, he is a true friend, but most importantly, he is a true man of God.
